*edited to add- now that i have a bit of time i wanted to add some words to go along with the photos
i don’t have a lot of time to write because there are piles of laundry, mail to pick up, sophie to be brought home, grocery shopping to be done, baths to be given
BUT
i wanted to share some of the 913 photos we took on our perfectly wonderful Maui vacation!!
i can not say enough good things about our trip…to sum it up in one word…it was perfect!
i am so looking forward to putting our album together and planning what templates, digi kit, etc to use!
photo notes:
*taken with my G11 and 7D/Canon 50 1.4. i planned on renting the 16-35 lens but decided not to and am kind of glad i didn’t. yes there were times i wish i had a wider angle but i liked the compactness of my set up and i didn’t have to worry about taking care of a rented lens. i still wrapped my camera up in a towel and tucked it into the non-sandy beach bag. i would have been super worried with rented equipment.
*shot in Raw and Jpeg – no editing (will edit later as needed for our album
*i love that we all took turns taking photos and documenting our trip
*also check out Kellie Hatcher’s blog for a sneak peek of our beach photo session.
so…in no particular order…
our last night in maui
headed to ka’anapali for dinner
on the balcony of our condo. we opted for the less expensive “mountain view” which was beautiful but SCORED when we were assigned an end room with an ocean view too! this is our first afternoon in maui getting ready to hit the beach “our beach” the girls called it b/c it was 10 steps away!
hitting the town- lahaina for dinner at cheeseburger in paradise and shopping
day 2- ka’anapali beach and shopping at whaler’s village
*FAVE photo of the entire vacation!
day 2- whale cruise. i was real worried about me and getting sea sick. i used to be a champ and could handle long, windy car rides, read in a boat, ride the gnarliest roller coasters and be fine. but since getting pregnant with katelyn that has all changed. even zack’s driving makes me ill.
it looks like zack is about to hurl in this photo but he was really only coughing.
i didn’t notice him when i took the picture b/c i was focusing on bean. later when i was looking thru my pics on the LCD screen i LOL’d- literally. like big ol out loud belly laugh and kept laughing about it the entire trip![]()
sunset pics on “our beach”
good morning sunshine! chocolate donuts in bed
just like home- leaving a disaster in their tracks
my little photographer
day 3- mother’s day in wailea
i was wished a happy mother’s day by so many random people- so sweet! and got a free scoop of ice cream!
this beach had a rocky shore on one side and the girls liked exploring the tide pools although there wasn’t much to see
a little girl who looked to be the same age as emmy was also exploring with us and when she would walk away, emmy would say “baby, come back.”
man! my girls like to get dirty and playing in the sand was no different. after our beach trips we usually put the girls in the shower together. i don’t know why we opted for a bath in the kitchen sink this time. but em loved it and bean wanted to get in too!
um- hello gorgeous weather! my kind of forecast!
it sprinkled one day- barely. the last day was the only really kind of uncomfortably hot day and maybe b/c we were packing up all our crap and schlepping it down to the car, into the shuttle, thru check out and such. man! we had a lot! the 2 car seats killed us!
ms. smiley on our balcony ready to go to the aquarium. our mountain view in the back.
i was pretty much unplugged. i did surf the net on my iPhone. the condo had wired (um who has wired internet anymore?!) so my kindle did not have internet service. i didn’t read as much as i thought i would although i just about completed one book. i thought i would read and such on the beach but i really just enjoyed the moment and watched my girls and family have a great time!
aquarium
i asked for one thing the entire trip- please pick up the camera and take photos too so you can see that i was on this vacation too. he did. thanks honey!
back to “our beach” which had a really cool fresh water stream that ran into the ocean. the girls loved it!
my little beach bum! love her golden girls! i think her hair got lighter and she tanned perfectly!
day 5- iao needle. a short drive and hike and we were in the middle of a really cool rain forest
we hiked off the trail a bit and played around in the falls and pools. so much fun!
baby beach
a local photog friend told us about this beach which was perfect for the girls. it is shallow and the surf is almost nonexistent so the girls could splash around. zack ran out and bought snorkel gear and boogie boards for the girls and they were natural “surfer girls”
early morning beach play. i think it was like 8am and the sun hadn’t come over our hotel yet.
the girls were running around like airplanes. shortly after this photo bean took a nose dive off the sand embankment and landed in the stream. we had to make a quick run up to the room for a clothes change which worked out perfectly b/c i needed another memory card
sugar cane train. the whistle was super loud and emmy was not liking it at all!
hee hee- zack doing his best baywatch run
hi doggy! waiting for the dolphin cruise. we didn’t see any whales or dolphins
but we did get to see a turtle![]()
both the girls got pretty sleepy on the cruise. emmy fell asleep on me for about an hour. just like their mama. if there had been a lounge chair i would have been snoozing too!
this is on the flight there- the girls ROCKED the flights!
the keys to success- snacks, coloring activities, iPhone and kindle games and toonies, snuggles with their favorite blankets, switching seats, short naps
the girls were so exhausted by the end of the day- the fell right asleep. emmy only fell out of the bed once
she woke up in the morning pointing to her head “boo boo, mommy”
i don’t think i ever really adjusted to the time change and was waking up extremely early! i think i’ve been tired since monday!
classic! love this! my little beach babe
silly emmy! she provided constant belly laughs with her talking and silly faces. such a personality on this one!
the only rainbow we saw. on our last night.
like father like daughter. both are playing angry birds i am sure.
mahalo! back to the mainland we go!!
